Lottoland Myths & Truths
The TRUTH About Betting With Lottoland

There’s no need to worry if you’re betting with Lottoland. Get the facts!
Due to legislation coming into effect in 2019, we can no longer offer lottery betting and as such some content may no longer be relevant.
MYTH #1 – Lottoland Is a 'fake' Lottery
TRUTH – Lottoland is actually an online betting bookmaker which allows customers to bet on the outcome of the official lottery rather than hold tickets in the draw
For all intents and purposes you will have the exact same customer experience as if you had a ticket in the official lottery, but with our business model we are able to bring a MUCH broader range of choice, value and innovation to customers that they would not normally have access to (more than 30 different lotteries from around the world).
This model also allows us to offer unique features and promotions such as our "DoubleJackpot" (double your jackpot winnings) and "Numbershield" (guarantees your jackpot prize will not be shared by anyone else).
MYTH #2 – No One Who Bets at Lottoland Wins
TRUTH – Lottoland players have won more than €960 million globally
There is no doubt that we have less winners than those in the official draw. This is because we do not have nearly the same concentrated customer base that they have. We still have thousands of winners each and every day who we are proud to claim that we successfully pay out.
On the 4th July 2017, we had our first Aussie Millionaire – a 56-year-old Grandma from Melbourne who $1,315,650.04 for a $5 bet by successfully matching five from five main numbers on MegaMillions.
In the month of July alone, we also had a $100,000.00 winner on the Friday Lotto and another $67,000.00 winner on the Saturday Superdraw. We expect many more big winners as we grow and more and more people realise the potential that they have with Lottoland!
MYTH #3 – Lottoland Can’t Guarantee Payouts and Are Slow to Payout
TRUTH – Lottoland absolutely CAN and WILL payout all winnings that have been won by eligible players
Lottoland guarantees all payouts through a sophisticated tried-and-tested insurance structure and in order for us to retain licensing we have to prove that we are able to make the required payouts to our players should they win and that we have the correct procedures in place to guarantee this.
Lottoland is also remarkably quick with payouts – all winnings go back into your Lottoland account following the draw and you can have your winnings back into your bank within 2-3 working days. This is remarkably shorter than the 2-week period offered from the other providers.
For smaller prizes we make the payment directly from the fund we have from total sales. For larger prize payments we take out insurance policies to cover the eventuality of a Jackpot win or substantial payout.
Lottoland has also appointed KPMG as the external auditor of their financial statements while PwC are responsible for verifying that all payments are made to winners.
MYTH #4 – Lottoland Has Hidden Costs and Fees
TRUTH – Lottoland does not charge any fees for players. You only pay for the bets you place.
Contrary to belief, we have no sign-up costs, nor do we charge fees for the issue of bets, registration or verification of your account and importantly we do not charge fees for depositing money or transferring any winnings to your bank account.
Some Bank Card providers may charge a cash advance fee as it is regarded as a gambling transaction, but Lottoland also offers numerous payment methods so you do not get stuck paying this fee should it occur. If it were a fee that we applied, we would happily waive it, but unfortunately, it is not ours to waiver.
MYTH #5 – We Are Putting Livelihoods at Risk e.g. Newsagents Personnel Loses Jobs
TRUTH – Lottoland is a lottery innovator who is giving choice to the consumer and in return creating new jobs in the online sector
We live in an ever evolving highly digital world where consumers want convenience at the click of a button. You can do anything from banking online to swiping right on the love of your life. Why should betting on the lotto remain in the dark ages? Consumers want to place a bet anytime, anywhere and Lottoland provides a worldwide gateway to do this.
We are no different to our competitors or any other online companies who are focusing their efforts online. Entrepreneurship and consumer choice should be encouraged, not hindered. Consumers should be allowed to decide where they spend their hard-earned cash.
MYTH #6 – Lottoland Is Having a Direct Impact on Tatts and Therefore Returns to Good Causes
TRUTH – Lottoland is not impacting the lottery market – we are growing the market
Lottoland has changed and improved the way lotto is played and is in fact growing the market. We account for less than 1% of Tatts overall revenue, and as such we are not having an impact on their business or returns to good causes.
Through customer research we’ve found that often people who bet on Lottoland will remain buying lottery tickets from their national lotteries. That’s because when coming to Lottoland customers are looking for something very different to the turgid and stale traditional lottery buying experience. For this reason and as further explained we do not see ourselves in direct competition with existing lottery providers – we are attracting a new customer group
MYTH #7 – Lottoland Does Not Pay Tax and Are Not Investing in Australian Economy/Society
TRUTH – Lottoland pays both corporate & income tax just like everybody else in Australia
In respect to gambling taxes, currently, the existing tax structure does not address Lottoland’s business model in an appropriate manner. We are wanting to comply fully with all legislation and are working extremely hard with the Northern Territory government to amend legislation in order to enable us to pay the relevant taxes.
Lottoland generates significant revenue for the local economy – in our first year of operation we invested $11.4 million in marketing in Australia. In line with our projected growth we will generate millions in additional taxes in 2017. Keep in mind that we are only a small start-up company and when we mature these figures and our contributions will grow exponentially.
